Building Energy Efficient Homes With Airtight Construction

Optimal airtightness is a key factor when creating energy efficient homes. DuPont™ Tyvek® and AirGuard® building envelope membranes and accessories provide a holistic solution to help achieve optimal airtightness, and hence optimal energy efficiency.

An airtight building envelope should allow controlled air exchange and air permeability to give suitable ventilation, yet still prevent condensation and convection heat loss.

Airtightness is a critical feature of energy efficient homes. It means improved moisture control and greater thermal performance, as well as better interior comfort. All this is easily achieved with DuPont™ Tyvek® and AirGuard® building envelope products.

Creating a Holistic Solution with Tyvek® and AirGuard®

Together, Tyvek® and AirGuard® offer a superior and airtight solution for energy efficient homes, moisture control and long-term protection of the building envelope. Combining these high-quality, durable membranes for your building envelope solution can help to make homes airtight and future-proof. Combining these high-quality, high- performance, durable membranes will ensure your home is airtight and future-proof. Tyvek® and AirGuard® membranes meet current sustainability codes standards for energy efficient homes.

DuPont™ AirGuard® AVCLs are airtight, making them an essential component in creating airtight building envelopes. In addition, opting to install a metallised membrane, such as AirGuard® Reflective, not only prevents air leakage, but also makes sure heat is radiated back into the building.

To make sure you obtain maximum benefit, we also offer a range of tailor-made tapes and accessories designed to eliminate leakage from gaps or joints.

Cold Pitched Roof Constructions

If the building is a cold pitched roof construction, installing a DuPont™ AirGuard® AVCL is vital. Increased use of insulation in house construction has allowed greater energy efficiency, but without the right roof insulation, it can also mean a build-up of moisture in buildings with cold pitched roofs. Without a properly installed DuPont™ AirGuard® AVCL, moisture from general building use will rise up and collect in the roof space. This is especially common once construction is complete during the temporary “drying out” phase, and afterwards during any harsh cold spells.

While no-one can control the weather, you can control the materials and methods you use for high-quality, energy efficient homes. By combining an airtight DuPont™ AirGuard® AVCL with a watertight DuPont™ Tyvek® breathable membrane, you can achieve energy efficient homes that ensure optimal airtightness, moisture control and thermal performance, and meet current sustainability building codes.

An Airtight Seal of Approval

DuPont™ AirGuard® products are already being used to create airtight, energy efficient homes in the UK. Successful projects include one in York, where a local Housing Association project installed AirGuard® Reflective.
