Built-in Inherent protection
Unlike other materials, Nomex® fabric has inherent flame-resistant properties that can’t be washed out or worn away so you get a tougher, more durable fabric with a longer lifespan and, ultimately, a better value.
Nomex® for arc flash clothing is made from lightweight fabrics which provide excellent comfort. The tested and proven performance of DuPont™ Nomex® is available in lightweight, comfortable, highly breathable fabrics that meet or exceed international standards for protection and performance.
More durable, more cost-effective
Nomex® for arc flash clothing is more durable than FR-treated cotton, making it more cost-effective. This durability is achieved through improved breaking strengths. The break strength is higher than FR-treated cotton.
A heritage of trusted thermal protection
Hazards are unpredictable. Nomex® is not. For more than 50 years, people working the toughest jobs around the world have trusted Nomex® to offer the best thermal protection on the market.
Now Nomex® for arc flash clothing expands that reliable protection to new hazards, including electrical arc flash, giving industrial workers the multi-hazard protection they need.
Nomex® fabric solutions for utilities
The tested and proven performance of DuPont™ Nomex® is now available in lightweight, comfortable, highly breathable fabrics that meet or exceed international standards for protection and performance.
Electric arc flash is one of the most serious and least understood electrical hazards. An electric arc (sometimes referred to as “electrical flashover”) is a continuous electric discharge of high current which flows through an air gap between conductors.
In most countries legislation exists, which states that wherever there may be risks to health and safety that can’t be controlled in other ways, the use of PPE is required. Whilst legislation offers guidance on electrical safety procedures, each working environment has its own hazards and as a result the PPE requirements may differ.
Electrical workers in utilities, automotive, oil and gas as well as mining industries need personal protection from high incident energy arc hazards.
Arc flash hazards can be addressed either with arc flash suits or with layering systems, both of which have different characteristics and properties, depending on what the user is looking for.
By taking a holistic approach to arc flash risk and protection, the 4P Methodology simplifies hazard assessment to four steps:
