DuPont’s New Ventilated Suit Enhances Protection and Comfort for Workers at High Risk of Chemical Exposure
The new DuPont™ Tychem® 6000 AL ventilated coverall helps keep workers safe and focused when carrying out critical tasks in the pharmaceutical and chemical industry
Now more than ever, workers face a high risk of exposure to hazardous chemicals that can permanently harm their health or prove fatal. A typical example is the handling of Highly Potent Active Pharmaceutical Ingredients (HPAPI) in pharmaceutical manufacturing. The HPAPI market is growing by over 10% yearly and is due to expand to just under $40 billion by 2027. Workers in this and other sectors like chemical manufacturing and oil and gas require the highest protection against chemical exposure. They also need personal protection equipment (PPE) that is comfortable to wear to reduce fatigue while performing delicate tasks.
DuPont™ Tychem® 6000 AL delivers an extremely high protection against hazardous chemicals in liquid, spray aerosol, and mist form (Category III - Type 3-B, 4-B, and 6-B). The ventilated coverall features stitched and over-taped seams and a fully enclosed over hood. Optional attached dissipative socks, under gloves, and over boots provide head-to-toe protection while helping to prevent static charging for use in explosive atmospheres.
In addition, the air pressure inside the suit (between 4.5 and 5.7 bar) is significantly higher than in the surrounding environment, helping to prevent hazardous particles and droplets from entering. Unlike other ventilated suits, the air belt is protected against contaminants as it is located inside the coverall preventing the accidental inhalation of harmful substances. This feature also helps reduce costs as the air belt can be reused multiple times.
The suit’s ventilation system is designed to maximise the wearer’s comfort and ease of use. Three exhaust valves, two at the hips and one at the back of the hood, and a fabric air plenum distribute cooling and breathing air effectively, reducing heat and helping to ensure a safe air supply. The visor provides a >180° panoramic view combined with in-suit window and above vision, enhancing the wearer's situational awareness and comfort. DuPont™ Tychem® 6000 AL is easy to put on thanks to its simplified closure and can be taken off quickly thanks to an emergency egress strip.
