Laying the groundwork for fun … a family bowling green benefits from advanced landscaping products from DuPont

In the grounds of an impressive country house in southern Italy, the traditional summer gathering place of a large extended family, major renovation work was required to ‘level the playing field’ and bring the landscaping up to modern standards. Surrounded by the rolling green hills of Irpini, “Villa Rita” has always enjoyed an informal bowling green area of about 40 square meters, which was popular with all ages, but which was in dire need of improvements to safety and maintenance.

The answer lay in the combined use of two high-performance products for soil stabilisation, drainage and weed control; DuPont™ Plantex® Geoproma® and DuPont™ Plantex® GroundGrid®. This advanced solution now enables the family to enjoy the long lazy summer days, confident that their much loved bowling green will be far easier to play on – and to maintain, with considerably reduced need for herbicides and other chemicals for weed control. These two landscaping products have also allowed for a minimised use of concrete in the design.

"The use of these innovative solutions from DuPont will allow us to maintain our green with the minimum of fuss and will ensure it remains in the best condition for the long run," says the owner of the villa, who is delighted with the results. Simeon Ferrara, owner of Ferrara Worldstone of Cesa (CE), who undertook the landscaping project also comments, "The installation was fast, smooth and painless. The entire operation was completed in less than a day.”

The reliable performance properties of DuPont™ Plantex® Geoproma® and DuPont™ Plantex® GroundGrid® will enhance both the stability and drainage of the bowling green, minimising the risk of puddles and subsidence. These advanced textiles will also help to prevent unwanted plant penetration while allowing sufficient moisture through to maintain the green.
