Bringing comfort and smiles to patients in Colombia
For 16 years, our site in Bogotá, Colombia has partnered with the Colombian National Cancer Institute (INC) to bring a touch of joy to cancer patients of all ages during the holiday season. Over the years, our efforts have benefited more than 6,500 cancer patients.
Not surprisingly, in December 2020 things were a bit different. In previous years, for example, cancer patients were treated to performances of DuPont talent, as employees and their families staged mini-music concerts featuring singers, drum bands, and more. This past December, there was no in-person contact with patients. The pandemic also meant that, like countless other charitable organizations around the world, INC struggled to raise funds and to secure other forms of community support for its cancer-fighting mission.
Employees from DuPont stepped in to help fill the gap and make an impact. Some donated money to our site’s Social Environmental Committee, which purchased gifts and delivered them to INC. Others purchased gifts on their own and sent them to our site, to be delivered by one of our volunteers.
As a result, in the 2019-2020 winter season, about 530 children and adults from all over Colombia benefited from DuPont’s outreach. In addition to 230 Christmas gifts, patients received 100 facemasks, 150 packs of dental floss, and 300 toothbrushes.
