Soldiers operating in the many armed conflicts taking place across the globe require protective apparel of ever increasing effectiveness, especially when working in tough weather and fighting conditions.
To meet the requirements of the French Ministry of Defence, French manufacturer of uniforms, combat gear and PPE Paul Boyé Technologies chose the latest innovation developed by DuPont: Kevlar® Impact Control (IC) 600D. Based on Kevlar®, an extra-tough aramid fibre, the “Tigre” body armour by Paul Boyé Technologies offers maximum comfort and safety for the French Army in the field.
Kevlar® Body Armour
DuPont and Paul Boyé Technologies, Partners in Quality
Paul Boyé Technologies desired to develop a vest providing the best possible level of safety for those soldiers operating in dangerous environments, but without compromising their operational capacity.
DuPont™ Kevlar® IC 600D was designed to reduce the risk of back face deformation. The ground-breaking para-aramid material offers optimum absorption of the impact and energy of bullets and small fragments.
Its high ballistic performance, low deformation, flexibility and user comfort persuaded Paul Boyé Technologies to rely on DuPont™ Kevlar® IC 600D to manufacture its new “Tigre” body armour, specially designed for operations in mountainous and urban environments.
DuPont™ Kevlar® IC 600D's properties, combined with know-how from Paul Boyé Technologies, prompted the French Ministry of Defence to choose “Tigre” for its troops requiring leading-edge body armour.
Kevlar® IC 600D not only makes the “Tigre” body armour more resistant thanks to its capacity to absorb kinetic energy from bullets, but also particularly flexible and comfortable, allowing for greater freedom of movement. Being both lightweight and modular, it guarantees improved performance during firing operations, whether facing either individual or crewed weapons.
Available in three colours (black, green and beige), the “Tigre” body armour can be worn every day, providing sustained protection to those soldiers dealing with unexpected threats.
The flexibility of Kevlar® IC 600D's also allowed Paul Boyé Technologies to add removable elements to the vest, in order to further enhance user safety. The vest can also provide protection for small, sensitive areas of the body such as the neck, shoulders, arms and pelvis.
Withstanding the toughest conditions
DuPont™ Kevlar® IC 600D, as used in the “Tigre” vest, also fulfills another requirement of the French Army: it can withstand heat. Inflammability tests show that Kevlar® IC 600D withstands heat without traces of holes, debris or residual incandescence.
Offering greater resistance to impact, DuPont™ Kevlar® IC 600D confers a high degree of protection to the “Tigre” vest: level IIIA for the standard version, and level IV – the highest – when used with added plates.
The French Ministry of Defence made the right choice: selecting the “Tigre” body armour by Paul Boyé Technologies with DuPont™ Kevlar® IC 600D means providing a better level of protection to its soldiers.
