Industrial Protective Clothing — For a Job Safely Done

When worker safety comes first, there’s only one name you need to know for superior industrial protective clothing — DuPont.

Our scientists and technicians have created and rigorously tested the materials that help protect against heat, flame and fire, electric arc flash, cut hazards, chemicals, dry particles, lead, asbestos, mold and hazardous aerosols. And there is further innovation to come. Whether you’re in the oil and gas, automotive, chemical, agricultural, food processing, manufacturing, or maintenance business, there’s an industry-leading DuPont solution suited to the job you need to get done.

Learn more below about each DuPont brand’s role in industrial safety.

DuPont™ Nomex® for flame-resistant protection

Garments made of Nomex® fiber are inherently flame-resistant, lighter in weight for increased comfort, and are breathable. Innovative Nomex® fabrics rapidly dissipate sweat through the fabric, helping the wearer feel dry and more comfortable.

Nomex® is a highly cost-effective solution in terms of cost per wear thanks to its exceptional durability. The fabric can also offer additional protection against chemical hazards if it is treated with an appropriate fluorocarbon finish.

DuPont™ Kevlar® for thermal, cut and abrasion protection – plus a comfortable fit

Kevlar® fiber helps manufacturers provide strength at high temperatures, making it ideal for gloves and mittens used in high-heat applications. Kevlar® is inherently flame-resistant and will not melt – unlike nylon, polyester, and polyethylene. In addition to welders and foundry employees, also automotive, steel, glass, and metal workers all over the world trust gloves and apparel made of Kevlar® fiber.

DuPont™ Tyvek® for general industrial protection

Tyvek® helps offer an ideal balance of protection, durability and comfort to employees in industrial applications and contamination control environments, including manufacturing, pharmaceutical, automotive and utilities.

DuPont™ Tychem® for comprehensive chemical protection

Tychem® helps protect emergency response personnel and workers in a wide range of industries. Chemical protective clothing made of Tychem® has been tested against a broad range of hazardous chemicals.

DuPont™ ProShield® coveralls for non-hazardous exposure

Coveralls made of ProShield® are designed to help protecti workers against non-hazardous dry particle and light liquid splash applications.

CASE STUDIES

  • New Search & Rescue Safety Glove from SEIZ

60,000 members of THW Technisches Hilfswerk (German Urban Search and Rescue Association) are better protected thanks to the new safety glove manufactured by SEIZ that incorporates DuPont™ Kevlar® and DuPont™ Nomex® fibres.

  • Ledoux & Tyvek® Coveralls

Purchasing Managers from the French Groupe Ledoux explain why they selected Tyvek® coveralls to protect their workforce.

INFORMATION & IDEAS

  • Nomex® & the Thermo-Man® Test

DuPont™ Thermo-Man® is a life-size mannequin equipped with 122 heat sensors dressed in test garments and exposed to a flash fire with temperatures rising up to 1,000°C.

  • Nomex® for Heat Stress Protection

Heat stress is a dangerous condition in any situation, but for firefighters it can be especially life threatening. In fact, heat stress is the number-one cause of casualties among firefighters. Nomex® fibre helps reduce heat stress due to its higher air permeability.

  • Nomex® for Lower Wear-Life Cost

Today’s firefighters need to be able to optimise budget vs. performance, without compromising on safety. For decades DuPont™ Nomex® fibre has demonstrated lasting protective performance, while helping to minimise repair and maintenance costs.

  • Nomex® for Performance Durability

Garments made of Nomex® fibre have helped protect firefighters for decades. Continuous exhaustive testing proves that they excel in the long-term retention of their heat and flame protective qualities.

  • Cut Test Methods – by the Numbers

When it comes to specifying protective gloves, there are many things to consider.

  • Gloves made of Kevlar® Q&A

View answers to some of the most frequently asked questions DuPont receives about industrial gloves made of Kevlar® fibre.

  • Protecting Nomex® Production

The DuPont™ Nomex® Partner Program is a carefully-selected network of customer-oriented and progressive weavers and garment manufacturers in Europe who adhere to the rigorous quality controls of DuPont for their fabrics and garments. A unique label on the garment aids identification and provides customers in Europe with a quality mark from reputable suppliers who offer genuine products with Nomex®.

  • Nomex® for Extra Seconds of Safety

Extensive testing shows that Nomex® fibre has remarkably low heat transfer. Under flash fire conditions, it helps provide firefighters valuable extra seconds of safety when they’re needed most.

  • Kevlar® Quality Programme

In Europe, only products that meet DuPont standards can carry the distinctive DuPont™ Kevlar® Power of Performance Technology label.

  • Nomex® Garment Weight Benefits

Typical protective fabrics made of Nomex® fibres can be up to 40% lighter than cotton and cotton-blended fabrics which were treated with flame-retardant chemicals.

  • Cost Effectiveness of Nomex®

DuPont™ Nomex® fibre is a highly cost-effective solution in terms of cost per wear thanks to its exceptional durability.

  • Nomex® Moisture Management Benefits

Fabrics and garments made of DuPont™ Nomex® help enable light-weight solutions with excellent moisture management.
