Light in Weight, High in Performance — Kevlar® Fiber
Versatile and strong, Kevlar® fiber is more than just a series of threads.
DuPont™ Kevlar® fibers are used in a variety of clothing, accessories, and equipment to help make them safer and more durable. With five times the strength of steel based on an equal weight basis, it’s the go-to fiber for protective apparel and accessories.
Kevlar® fiber and filament come in a variety of types, each with its own unique set of properties and performance characteristics for different protection needs.
Kevlar® 29 (K29)
The original family of product types of Kevlar®, having similar tensile properties with many decitex and finishes. These yarns are used in ballistic applications, ropes and cables, protective apparel such as cut-resistant gloves, in life protection uses such as helmets, vehicular armoring, and plates, and as rubber reinforcement in tires and automotive hoses.
Kevlar® 49 (K49)
High-modulus type used primarily in fiber optic cable, textile processing, plastic reinforcement, ropes, cables, and composites for marine sporting goods and aerospace applications.
Producer-colored Kevlar® yarns, used in ropes and cables, tapes and strappings, gloves and other protective apparel, and sporting goods.
Higher-elongation, flexible-fatigue-resistant yarn types found in mechanical rubber goods, such as tires, automotive belts, and hoses.
Lightweight, high-performance, and high-tenacity type of yarns used in motorcycle racing gear, life protection accessories, ropes and cables, and high-pressure hoses used in the oil and gas industry.
Woven into fabric meeting performance requirements for helmets and vests for military and high-performing UDs for spall liners.
Kevlar® KM2 Plus
High tenacity, high toughness, and finer decitex fiber used in vests and helmet for both military and law enforcement officers.
Kevlar® AP for Advanced Performance dramatically improves cost-effectiveness and design flexibility to help manufacturers build leaner, more robust consumer and industrial products.

Kutting UK Offshore Oil & Gas Hoses
Kutting UK Ltd., a leader in the manufacture of thermoplastic high pressure hoses for the offshore oil and gas industry, recently decided to switch all its aramid-based products to DuPont™ Kevlar® brand fibre, helping their company to develop the next generation of very-high-working-pressure-, high-temperature- and high-collapse-resistant hoses demanded by the industry.
Offshore Rig Evacuation Chutes
Viking Life-Saving Equipment is committed to safety at sea and goes to extraordinary lengths to protect customers from offshore danger. Find out how Viking uses DuPont™ Kevlar® and DuPont™ Nomex® fibre in offshore-rig evacuation chutes.
Time-Tested Ropes Made of Kevlar®
In 1976, engineers at Linear Composites Limited set up an external test rig to measure the actual creep strain performance of the company’s ParaFil® ropes. Today, over 34 years later, the ropes are still under the same loading, showing almost imperceptible creep.
Trenchless Pipe Rehabilitation with Kevlar®
The Primus Line® pipeline system developed by Rädlinger uses the strength of DuPont™ Kevlar® fibre for trenchless rehabilitation of pressure pipes. Designed with short rehabilitation times and fast recommissiong in mind, Primus Line® offers substantial potential savings as a viable alternative to open rehabilitation methods.
Nexans Underwater Cables with Kevlar®
To manufacture underwater cables rugged enough to protect delicate fibre optic lines against the drag force exerted by kilotons of salt water, Nexans makes extensive use of DuPont™ Kevlar®, an aramid fibre which is five times stronger than steel on equal weight basis.
