Innovative fibers from DuPont help protect personnel and equipment.

Fibers

Continuing a Thread of Innovation with Performance Fibers

DuPont continues to develop innovative high performance fibers - working with manufacturers and designers to develop materials that can be used to protect people and equipment, and lower carbon footprint.

DuPont has been the world leader in polymer and textile science since the early 1900s and has continued a legacy of innovation in performance fibers.

Manufacturers, mills, and designers look for fibers to protect people and machinery, provide stronger and lighter weight reinforcements, and design with high performing eco-friendly materials. We collaborate and innovate with customers using performance fibers such as: DuPont™ Kevlar® for ballistic protection, cut protection and strength reinforcement;  DuPont™ Nomex® flame resistant fiber for protective apparel, automotive components, composite and filtration applications, and electrical paper used in transformers, motors and generators; and DuPont™ Sorona®, an innovative carpet, apparel and automotive interior eco-fiber that offers reduced dependence on fossil fuels and a reduced environmental footprint.

Whether it’s protecting firefighters, industrial workers, police officers and military forces, helping engines and generators operate at high temperature, or providing comfort, stretch, and softness to clothing, DuPont performance fibers are the extraordinary thread that impacts our lives.

CASE STUDIES

  • DuPont and Paul Boyé Technologies, Partners in Quality

To meet the requirements of the French Ministry of Defence, French manufacturer of uniforms, combat gear and PPE Paul Boyé Technologies chose the latest innovation developed by DuPont: Kevlar® Impact Control (IC) 600D.

  • Seyntex Multi-Threat Protection

Seyntex, a leading Belgian textile manufacturer, recently won a tender in Denmark with its protective garments using the Nomex® MTP fibres.

  • Trenchless Pipe Rehabilitation with Kevlar®

The Primus Line® pipeline system developed by Rädlinger uses the strength of DuPont™ Kevlar® fibre for trenchless rehabilitation of pressure pipes. Designed with short rehabilitation times and fast recommissiong in mind, Primus Line® offers substantial potential savings as a viable alternative to open rehabilitation methods.

  • Dunlop Sport Maxx® TT with Kevlar®

Using DuPont™ Kevlar® Engineered Elastomer (EE) in the complete apex of the new Dunlop SP Sport Maxx® TT tyre represents a breakthrough in tyre technology.

  • Kutting UK Offshore Oil & Gas Hoses

Kutting UK Ltd., a leader in the manufacture of thermoplastic high pressure hoses for the offshore oil and gas industry, recently decided to switch all its aramid-based products to DuPont™ Kevlar® brand fibre, helping their company to develop the next generation of very-high-working-pressure-, high-temperature- and high-collapse-resistant hoses demanded by the industry.

  • Nexans Underwater Cables with Kevlar®

To manufacture underwater cables rugged enough to protect delicate fibre optic lines against the drag force exerted by kilotons of salt water, Nexans makes extensive use of DuPont™ Kevlar®, an aramid fibre which is five times stronger than steel on equal weight basis.

  • E-Tracer® made with Kevlar®

DuPont™ Kevlar® decided to sponsor the innovative battery powered vehicle called the E-Tracer®.

  • Time-Tested Ropes Made of Kevlar®

In 1976, engineers at Linear Composites Limited set up an external test rig to measure the actual creep strain performance of the company’s ParaFil® ropes. Today, over 34 years later, the ropes are still under the same loading, showing almost imperceptible creep.

INFORMATION & IDEAS

  • Time is of the Essence

Time plays a crucial role in the protection cycle of PPE and so it is important that firefighters consider how their garments behave and interact with the wearer during and after these events to ensure they take the correct course of action and are properly protected.

  • Protecting Nomex® Production

The DuPont™ Nomex® Partner Program is a carefully-selected network of customer-oriented and progressive weavers and garment manufacturers in Europe who adhere to the rigorous quality controls of DuPont for their fabrics and garments. A unique label on the garment aids identification and provides customers in Europe with a quality mark from reputable suppliers who offer genuine products with Nomex®.

  • Kevlar® Quality Programme

In Europe, only products that meet DuPont standards can carry the distinctive DuPont™ Kevlar® Power of Performance Technology label.

  • Hot Gas Filtration Cement Industry

In the cement industry, DuPont™ Nomex® KD helps provide better filtration and dust retention, with greater reliability at lower energy and material costs.

  • Improving Tyre Reinforcement

Kevlar® Engineered Elastomer for tyre reinforcement is based on a new method to disperse para-aramid pulp into rubber through a far easier process than dry para-aramid pulp. Read the study that explains the science behind this innovative pulp that has been adopted with success in the automobile industry.

  • Nomex® Brand Filtration Quality Partner Programme

The DuPont™ Nomex® Brand Filtration Quality Partner Programme is a carefully-selected network of EMEA customer-oriented felt producers and bag manufacturers whose felt/bags pass stringent quality control of DuPont and who are empowered to provide ideal products and services to asphalt, cement and metal industries.
