Noir restaurant in Piatra Neamt: an interior design project with DuPont™ Corian® solid surface and wood, inspired by local forests and mountains
Located in the northeastern Romanian town Piatra Neamt, Noir is a new attraction for gourmets who enjoy tasting culinary art in intriguing environments. The interior design of Noir restaurant, created by Nuca architecture and design studio, merge essential shapes and furnishings with a warm and intimate feel, given by finishes created in wood from the local area and enhanced by the virtuous application of DuPont™ Corian® solid surface.
For the concept of Nuca, the design team (Robert Marin, Ramona Macarie and Mirela Nitu) based the 150 square metres of Noir restaurant on the local landscape with its picturesque mountains and forests, surrounding the town. The interior design of Noir superimpose over this idyllic scenery thanks to its main finishing material. The floors, furniture and the wall coverings are made with wood; while, to create an appealing accent on the walls, Nuca chose to utilise DuPont™ Corian® surfacing material.
Because Corian® solid surface can be formed into virtually any shape, it was possible to create fluid envelopes for the underlying branches of trees, each one different from the other. The shape of every panel and the wooden branches, emerging at different points from the smooth surface of Corian® create suspense and animate the walls.
A large counter bar provides an illuminated contrast to the walls of Noir restaurant, but one that remains in harmony with the entire atmosphere. Fabricated from Corian® in Glacier White, the material takes on a slight translucency when backlit, and is decorated with engravings of abstracted foliage; the counter bar provides a mood-setting light and visual accents to the environment.
Nuca architects also used Corian® for the Noir logo on the restaurant’s walls.
